Sewing
notions are the little details that work together with fabric to create
functional clothes and other sewing projects. Notions include thread,
buttons, zippers, hooks, eyes and more.
Sewing notions are usually indicated on every commercially purchased
pattern (Simplicity patterns, Butterick patterns, etc.). If you don’t
recognize the notion that is indicated for your project, ask someone
at the fabric store to point you in the right direction, but most notions
are commonplace items you use every day when getting dressed/undressed.
If you are a sewing whiz and create your own fashions all the time,
you know exactly what sewing notions are and how they increase the look
or functionality of an item of clothing. Think about it – what
would a tight dress be without a zipper?
