Art supplies FAQs

What is the difference between art supplies and craft supplies?

When you make a work of art, you are creating a piece that can be admired purely for its aesthetics. When you make a craft, however, you are creating a piece of work that has some utility and can be used for some purpose. Therefore, when you shop for craft supplies, you were shopping for items that will help you create a work that has some purpose. For example, craft supplies are used in making a book or scrapbook, home decorations, or a game for your child. On the other hand, art supplies are used when working in a medium with the explicit purpose of creating beauty.

Where can I get art supplies?

If you are looking to purchase art supplies, the Internet is a great place to look. However, if you want to go to a store, you're likely to find a better selection in a big city that has an art school nearby.

Can I make my own art supplies?

You can make your own art supplies, but this will require some investment of time. It is possible to make your own art paper, canvases and paintbrushes. The question is, would you rather be creating art or creating art supplies?
